The Knight of the Month
for January 2012 was Forst Elliott in recognition to his outstanding
chairmanship of the very successful Annual Fish Fry.
Forst spent countless hours getting things
organized, setting things up, working the event and cleaning up the
following day.
His leadership in these endeavors directly
contributed to the success of the event.
My personal thanks to all the Brother Knights who
worked so hard to make this year’s Fish Fry so successful.
Grand Knight’s Report
Brother Knights:
This will be the last issue of the Spirit of 4022 that
will be printed and mailed to you via the US Postal Service.
The Spirit will continue to be published but will only be distributed
via e-mail. Copies of the
current and past issues of the Spirit will also be available on the Council
web site at:
www.kofc4022.org.
The reasons for this decision are many.
The printing and mailing of copies of the Spirit is costing the
Council in excess of $200 per month.
Although we have a postage permit, we are also increasing finding it
difficult to have the minimum 200 copies necessary to qualify for the bulk
rate. This is an expense that we
can no longer afford due to our limited fund raising over the past few
years. The printing, collating,
labeling, and mailing of the Spirit is also very time consuming task.
If you wish to continue receiving you copy of the
Spirit it will be necessary for you to ensure that we have a current e-mail
on record for you. If you have
none on file or are not really sure that you do, send an e-mail to:
grandknight@kofc4022.org
with your name and e-mail address and we will add you to the distribution
list.
My congratulations to the members of the Council on our
recent Annual Fish Fry. This was
by far the best attended and most profitable Fish Fry we have staged in many
years. Lots of hard work went
into this event.
An idea generated at the Fish Fry was to gather
signatures to combat
the January 20th, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), final
decision that would force Catholic institutions to provide health insurance
that includes all FDA-approved contraceptive methods and sterilization
procedures, including several drugs that cause an early abortion by
interfering with the implantation of a newly-conceived human being.
In one weeks time this idea was turned into reality.
On the weekend of 11-12 February the Council collected 609 signed
postcards that are now in the hands of our elected representatives.
While this is a notable accomplishment, I urge you to write to our
Congressman and two Senators and urge them to support “The Respect for
Rights of Conscience Act”.
